"Hi Erwin - I used to have Dynaudio Contour S1.4 which are the next range to focus.
Brilliant speakers but the bass was too much for me.
Dynaudios are proud about the amount of bass their speakers can produce
and what I gather is that with the going up on series the bass improves in both quality and quantity."
"They (Focus 110 /Henrik) are extremely hungry and will only play this well
if you use them with a powerful amplifier. We are not talking about watts but pure current.
I started using them with the otherwise great amp Cambridge 740A, but found
the amps control of the speakers lacking. Then I switched to my current Naim Nait XS,
and ohh what glory .-) "
Her, er
der én, der skriver om Contour 1.4:
"I am right now feeling that low frequency is slightly over powering and the high frequency
levels are a little low in levels."
"the contours can generate a lot of bass. i had some on home dem and really liked them,
but did find the bass a bit heavy handed in my room."
En anden skriver:
"I do agree that the speakers need to be as far as possible from room boundaries
(without getting ridiculous). The other important factor is the amp. The contours
sound best with lots of solid state power. They are not easy to drive in my opinion. "
En anden igen:
"Dynaudio used to have the advertising slogan: Dynaudio knows Bass
(...)
However, to be driven well they need an amp that can deliver high peak current,
not neccessarily high power. My Naim power amp is only (conservatively) rated at
100 watts/channel into 4 ohms, but can sustain high peak current due to its large power supply.
It may be that your Marantz just struggles to give enough current? "
Her er der én, der skriver:
"I think Dynaudios are generally quite unforgiving of amplification. A stronger amp will
grip them and allow their (over engineered) bass drivers to do their stuff. My Cyrus 8 XPd/PSX-R
can just about cope with the Contours, but I have heard them on the end of both Cyrus Mono X's
and a Bryston 4b SST(2) and they sounded amazing. "
Lidt længere nede skriver en anden:
"I've owned Dynaudio Excite X12, X16s, and now Contour S1.4s.
I've also owned quite a few other speaker brands.
(...)
I agree that they need lots of space around them or the bass can be too much,
but on the other hand, position them right and the bass is very much first class.
Deep and articulate bass can be achieved."
Her skriver en forhandler:
"Ideally though. I'd be looking at a pre/power in order to make sure the Dyn's bass stays tight and controlled."
****************************
